ive been planning on going here ever since pierce raved about its olive oil gelato and it didn't disappoint.  we had a mussel appetizer which was a really yummy combination of sweet, spicy, and...mint.  the egg pizza with added proscuitto was also really good and the egg went suprisingly well with the rest of the ingredients.  the other pizza we got, oliva, with chunks of proscuitto though was even better - the cheese and the tomato sauce were unbelievable.  couldn't of course leave without trying the olive oil gelato...i wouldn't get an entire scoop of this stuff (they let you choose up to three flavors in one cup) but it was certainly interesting.  the waitress was really nice and helpful too...pointed out all the good stuff on the menu (like the pumpkin gelato flavor...so darn good)!  its a fun, friendly atmosphere.  we saw a lot of cute families, large groups, and happy friends.  price is not bad either.

Gramercy Tavern

Gramercy won the James Beard Award for best restaurant this past summer, and their food, service, and ambience lived up to that status.  The service was attentive, kind, and most importantly - not sobby at all.  The interior was huge, grand, but really comfy too.  Beautiful red curtains partion the restaurant into sections and diners almost feel like they're dining in a small restaurant.  The food was great, and though none of the dishes lived up to the rabbit gnocchi at Peasant, it was all consistent.  We had the Brook Trout with Cippollini Purée and Pickled Onion Vinaigrette / Black Tagliatelle Chorizo, Mussels and Calamari (seafood heaven!) / Sirloin & Braised Flat Iron Flat Beans and Fairytale Eggplant (deeeliccious sauce) / Rack of Pork & Braised Belly Baby Turnips and Fingerling Potatoes / Warm Chocolate Bread Pudding Cacao Nib Ice Cream (really good) / Blackberry Streusel Cake Blackberry Lime Sherbet.  The warm bread pudding was the winner of the evening - it was amazing!

If we were scoring this just on food, it'd get a 10/10. Never have I been to a restaurant where each plate hits the mark perfectly! The wine here is affordable, the interior very pretty, but the menu, completely in italian...kinda annoying.

A Great Summer Memory

We were discussing our favorite summer memories today and dinner at Little Owl is up there in the top 5.  Our waitress was very friendly, the riesling and mixed drinks were refreshing, and the food was just amazing!  We started with the meatball sliders (sadly our great photographs of 'em disappeared).  The meatballs and the sauce were absolutely amazing!  My plate (the chicken) was really wonderful too and the entire time I was amazed at how crispy they managed to get the outside and how juicy they managed to make the insides.  The artic char was really delicious too but I don't remember so much about it - I was too busy being pleased by my chicken.  The place itself is really cute with random owls placed here and there.

A Small Plate Place & a Bit of Prosecco

I decided to go here after reading the cheap eats roundup by ny mag.  Bar Stuzzichini made it for their $17 brunch.  For $17, you get three small plates (and trust me, they are veryy small) and the choice of prosecco or bellini.  The two of us got everything but two plates that they offered - the melon and proscuitto bruschetta (bad memories of our own attempts at proscuitto wrapped melon hor'dourves) and the strawberries&mascarpone dessert.  Three of the dishes were quiches (spaghetti, neopolitan pizza, and fritata di patata); one was fried shrimp and squid, another toast with marinara and egg, and the last, a pork ragu lasagne.  They were all pretty delicious (slightly on the lukewarm side though) but I was definitely a litlte concerned when I saw the portions.  They were TINY and I wasn't sure if I'd be full, much less the hungry one sitting across from me.  It ended up being a satisfactory amount...though I'd definitely find another place if I were hungrier or had a better appetite in general.  The decor as nymag mentioned is a little blah (kinda dark, plain, and large) and it was pretty darn empty when we went in at 11:45am.  It's really a 3.5 stars rating though - the food was good!
